Shaws Brewery was founded in 1850 at the rear of The Red Lion in Ashton-Under-Lyne, Greater Manchester, by Mr William Shaw. It moved to a larger premises in Dukinfield in 1856 and grew into a strong independent regional brewery with a portfolio of 60 public houses under the next three generations of Shaw heirs. In 1941 the brewery and its assets were sold to John Smiths of Tadcaster, who used the empty brewery premises as warehousing and distribution, where they remained until the 1960s

In 2002 the brewery was resurrected back in Greater Manchester and has successfully brewed traditional ales and stouts ever since. The Shaws Brewery of today is dedicated to the independent spirit of its founder. With a connection to the past and the benefit of modern techniques, knowledge and ingredients, we produce a range of regular fine ales and spectacular seasonals according to the month. Please do not hesitate to get in touch - we are more than happy to accommodate visitors, to talk you through the brewing process, and show to you how we work.
